Poetry Cafe

Nick has been studying poetry at school.  The class shared the poems that they wrote with their families at the Poetry Cafe.
Nick's poem was titled "Southwest Airplane Flight".

Southwest Airplane Flight
by Nicholas Horn

Airport airport tons of snacks
Airplane airplane lets go for a ride
On the big blue red and orange jet
Peanuts and pretzels if you're on board
Now we have arrived at the Indyport.

I wonder where he gets his inspiration????

Go Ravens!

Nick and Sam have just completed another season of basketball.  Their team was the Ravens and was coached by Eric!  This was our first experience of keeping score and playing in a post season tournament!
The Ravens' tournament game went into overtime!  But, unfortunately they couldn't pull out a win.
It was a fun season and Nick and Sam both improved with their shooting and dribbling skills.
Ben was the Ravens' biggest fan.  He never missed a game and was always cheering the loudest in the crowd!

A visit with our cousins

Over the weekend Aunt Ellen, Nathan and Andrew came to visit.  Nick, Sam and Ben always get so excited when they come!  Saturday night we had a game night in our basement.  Our boys stayed up until 11, which is super late for them!
So much fun!

Boogie down with Wii Just Dance!

Sunday morning Lego time for Sam and Annie.

We spent Sunday afternoon at the Indianapolis Zoo.  It was a beautiful day, warm and sunny!

Nathan, Nick, and some jellies.
I wonder what they were talking about...

Ready, set race!

It's Pinewood Derby time! Nick and Sam were ready to race their Pinewood Derby cars that they made, with a little help from Dad.

Nick's car had an Arizona theme while Sam choose to decorate his car with an army theme.
Although they didn't win any offical awards, they were by far my favorite cars of the day!

Happy 6th Birthday to Ben!

Ben turned 6 on March 6th!
I'm not sure how that happened already.
He started out his day with candles on his favorite breakfast treat, chocolate doughnuts!

Ben received a Happy Birthday crown and pencil at school and his class sang to him.
Unfortunately we aren't allowed to send in birthday treats for the class in elementary school but I did have lunch with him at school.

A little after school work, Nick likes to help quiz Ben on his sight words.
Important stuff to know when you are 6!

Presents from our family!

Ben and his monster truck cake!

Ben's birthday was on Friday.  It was a busy but fun weekend!  On Friday we had our school carnival that our family participated in, Saturday was the Pinewood Derby for Nick and Sam.  Sunday we had a birthday party for Ben and his friends!

The boys started the party by constructing monster trucks with candy and marshmallows.

Next, we had a line up of games for the kids to play...

and the finale, a Grave Digger piƱata!

We served Ben's favorite foods for dinner, hot dogs, hamburgers and mac & cheese.

The boys played a little game of telephone while finishing up their hotdogs and burgers.

Happy Birthday to Ben...

More presents!

At age 6, Ben wants to be a monster truck driver when he grows up.  His favorite foods are hot dogs and mac & cheese, and he loves to give hugs and blow kisses to his mom and dad.  He's becoming quite a good reader, plays the piano and loves to play Angry Birds on his I Pod.  Ben's favorite friends are Nick and Sam.  He loves to hang out with them playing basketball and running around in the backyard.  Ben also loves to snuggle with his puppies Ruby and Louise and tries to be affectionate with Annie our cat, when she feels like it!

Illinois Basketball Game

The boys have been asking to go to an Illini basketball game all season, we finally made it to one!  Aunt Joy and Uncle Bob met us in Champaign to join in the fun.  We went to dinner beforehand at a classic Champaign steakhouse, The Ribeye, and then we were off to the game to watch the Illini destroy Northwestern!

Nick and Sam both had signs they held up to cheer on Illinois.
They truly enjoyed every minute of the game!

We stayed the night at a hotel with a pool, which is always a lot of fun for these boys!

The next morning we woke up to a snow storm!  We made it home without any trouble and came home to an afternoon of playtime in the snow!

Annie doesn't seem to mind the snow.  She likes to bat at snowballs and even had a turn on the sled, which she did not care much for!
