RV life

This is a snippet of our living quarters for the week.  

Sam slept above the front seats in a drop down bed, Ben slept in the top bunk inside a cubby.  Eric and I slept in a real bed.  Parent's perks.  It was all so cozy and fun, for a week!  We also rented an SUV to drive to other places, while the RV stayed parked.

We had 2 camp sites, one in Door County, and another in the Dells.  Both had a fire pit and grill and walking trails.  

We all pitched in on the cooking and cleaning.

This was our second RV trip with the kids...I think we'd do it again in the future...

 

 

The Dells

After 4 nights in Door County we moved our home to the Wisconsin Dells for the final 3 nights of our trip.  We had two days to spend in the Dells.  The first day we went to an indoor water park, Ben's request.  We splurged on a cabana and enjoyed a waiter bringing us food and drinks.  Ben conquered the waves on a boogie board and Sam and he enjoyed all of the water slides!  Sadly I didn't take any pictures that day.  The following day Eric and Sam golfed in the morning, while Ben and  I checked out the shops, played mini golf and raced go carts!  Later on we had a delicious lunch next to the Wisconsin River and then later on we went on a beautiful hike.  

 

Lambeau Field

Sam's second request on the trip, after attending a Packer's game, was to tour Lambeau Field.  The Green Bay Packers are owned by the fans.  Sam received a Christmas gift a few years ago for a share of the Packers.  So, it was fitting, as an owner, to go learn more about his team!  

We learned so much about the history of the Packers, how the grass was grown on the field, we saw the press box, we walked thru the tunnel where the team takes the field, and so much more!  The tour included a museum which was quite cool.   

 

Peninsula State Park

The following day we spent the afternoon at Peninsula State Park.  The morning was rainy, but by the time we were ready to get going the rain had cleared out and left us a beautiful fall afternoon.  We went on a few hikes, checked out the bay, and had lunch at an adorable cafe nearby.   

Fall Break

Sam and Ben are ready for a well deserved break from school!  Eric and I let Sam help plan our fall break trip, senior privileges!  Sam wanted to go to Green Bay, WI to catch a football game and explore the area, in an RV.  So, we rented an RV and headed north!  

We had an uneventful drive to Door County and got settled into our camp spot for the night.  After a restful night we headed into Green Bay for the Packers vs. Bengals football game.  Sam has been a Packers fan since he was very small, strongly influenced by his Grama and Grampa Schruafnagel! and has always wanted to go to a game at Lambeau.  It did not disappoint!  We arrived early for a little tailgating before heading into the stadium.  It was a beautiful, warm afternoon.  The Packers won, Sam rejoiced!  The stadium was very cool and classic.  The fans were all so kind and respectful.  We returned a few days later for a stadium tour to learn a little more about the franchise and the history of Lambeau.

 

Grandma Bonnie

We said goodbye to the best Mom, Grandma and Mother in Law.  

 Bonnie Lee Horn, 75, of Springfield, IL, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025, at home in the loving arms of family. Born on September 19, 1950, in Springfield, IL, Bonnie was the daughter of Gilbert “Dutch” and Wilma Pauline (née Davenport) Van Bebber. She grew up in Springfield, graduated from Lanphier High School, and enjoyed a lifelong career as a Tax Analyst for the Illinois Department of Revenue. 

Bonnie’s greatest joy came from spending time with her children, sisters, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. An enthusiastic and feisty woman, she was renowned for being the sole die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan in a family of Chicago Cubs supporters. She also loved cheering for University of Illinois sports, taking trips to riverboat casinos with her sisters, and hosting lively family gatherings. 

She is survived by her sisters, Sharon Adams, Sally Smith, and Peggy Pressler, all of Springfield; her children, Daniel Horn, Jr. (Deena) of Bloomington, Eric Horn (Karen) of Zionsville, IN, Aaron Horn (Angela) of Maryville, IL, and Jessica Burik (Kevin) of Massapequa, NY; and her grandchildren, Max, Emma, Jack, Nick, Sam, Ben, Brandon, and Jonathan. 

Bonnie was always up for an adventure with Eric and I before the boys were born.  She visited us many times out in Arizona.  We enjoyed trips together to San Diego, Tombstone and the Grand Canyon, just to name a few.  Once the boys were born she visited us often in Indiana, staying a week to help out after Sam and Ben were born.  We always loved when Grandma Bonnie came to visit.  She watched quite a few ballgames over the years.  Not to mention was always a willing audience member for spontaneous concerts and performances from the boys.  She gladly went along with us to the Children's museum, the State Fair, dinners out that weren't necessarily relaxing with 3 young boys! She loved to bring gifts for the boys, too.  Bonnie was always so welcoming to me, since the first day we met.  She never judged or questioned our parenting.  She was truly the best mother in law.  We are really going to miss her. 

Bonnie's burial will take place later in November.  We will have a celebration of life in December.
