Venice, Day 8

Today we toured St. Marks Square and St. Marks Basilica.  We ended the tour with a gondola ride.  What a way to cap off our Italian vacation!
We had wonderful tour guides throughout all of our trip.  Our brains are full of so many facts, stories and beautiful memories!
When I was a senior in high school I took a trip over spring break to Europe with our art club.  I had traveled to Rome, Florence and Venice and other places, then.  I certainly didn't appreciate all that I saw at age 17!  I'm so happy I could return as an adult and spend a longer time at each of these cities and bring my family!

After our tour the boys ditched us to do some exploring on their own.  Eric and I stopped in a cafe for a spritz just in time as a huge rain storm rolled in providing a very dramatic sky!  We later enjoyed a dinner alone at a beautiful spot our guide from the night before recommended.
The boys had an adventure of their own.  They did a little shopping, talked to locals to find the best pizza in Venice, met a golden retriever, and returned to the gelato spot we had been to the night before on our food tour!

Sadly the trip had to come to an end.  Our water taxi picked us up bright and early the next morning and we were off to the Venice airport.  Unfortunately it wasn't an easy travel day home.  We were delayed leaving Venice due to storms on the east coast in the US.  We were again delayed in DC and spent the night at the airport.  We did eventually get home, about 17 hours later than planned!  Oh well, these things happen!  I was proud of us all and how well we all handled the disruption on so little sleep!

We are all looking forward to a return to Italy.  I feel like we just scratched the surface of all the amazing sites to see in this beautiful country!

Venice, Day 7

We arrived in Venice via water taxi!  So unique and fun!  Our apartment was once again ready for us.  After getting settled we explored our area and met up with our tour for the evening, Eat like a Venetian!  And we sure did!  Our knowledgeable guide took us to the local places where we enjoyed cicchetti, or Venetian tapas, lots of fish, including sardines! and learned about the local wines.
