The next day we had a full day tour planned. Our driver picked us up very early and we headed up to Bologna to meet up with our tour. We decided against renting a car, it was just easier that way! And we are on vacation! Our local cafe wasn't open for our daily latte when we had to leave. Our driver stopped in at a gas station off of the highway for us to get our fix. It twas the best tasting gas station latte of my life!
After meeting up with our tour in Bologna, we boarded a van and headed to Parma to learn how Parmesan cheese was made. We learned how to spot authentic Parmesan Reggiano and we sampled some as well!
The next stop on the tour was at a Lambrusco Tasting room. This was so fun, and very unexpected. The owner of the winery is a collector. He had all kinds of farming equipment, old wine making supplies and other various items on display. The best items on display were F1 cars! He was friends with someone in the industry and had a fun collection.
We learned about how Lambrusco was made and enjoyed tasting as well!
At our next stop we learned the process of making balsamic vinegar. We sampled some with our delicious lunch. It was interesting to smell and taste the differences between the freshly made balsamic, 15 and 25 year old balsamic!
Our final stop was at the Ferrari Museum! When we chose this tour Eric and I labeled it 'A day for Ben'. And it truly was. It was a day filled with all of his favorites!
