July....

The month of July was filled with lots of baseball, a summer pool party, college tours and visits from family and friends.

The first baseball tournament for Sam was held at Butler's ball diamond.  It's pretty cool that Sam was able to pitch here!

We had our annual pool party followed by fireworks at the end of the night.  A lot of family was able to come and celebrate with us.

Of course we had Ben's favorite, the infamous slip n slide with shaving cream!
Sweet Ben, he had a mishap on his first ride down twisting his left pinky.  He didn't tell us until the weekend was over. He must have a very high pain tolerance because he never complained about a hurt finger.  Two weeks later he showed us his finger again, this time it was quite obvious something was very wrong with it.  After a trip to urgent care at Ortho Indy we learned it was broken and was going to require a surgical fix.  5 days later Ben had surgery.  He was very brave throughout it all and very cooperative with the physical therapy that followed for the next few months.

Sisters are the best!

Our next college visit with Nick was to the University of Cincinnati.  The business school was quite impressive as was the fact that the football stadium is always open and anyone could go onto the field to play a game of frisbee, or anything else!  Just as long as the real football team for UC wasn't using the field at the time.

Next up was a baseball tournament at Notre Dame.  Sam and I went together and joined a handful of his teammates staying in a Airbnb together on the edge of campus, across the street from the baseball stadium.  It was another thrilling location to watch Sam pitch!
The campus of Notre Dame is so beautiful.  We walked around campus quite a bit, we visited the Grotto and lit a candle for a special teammate who was going thru a rough health time.

We spent an afternoon visiting our good friends Luke and Amy too while in South Bend. Sam and Luke have been friends since 2nd grade!  Their family moved away from our town about 5 years ago.  We always enjoy our visits together!

Eric and I joined Ben and a couple of buddies at the Brickyard 400 Nascar race later in the month.  It was our first Nascar race!  I was surprised at how much fun it was to watch.  Ben of course was in heaven watching those cars pass by at crazy speeds!
Ben is living in the right town for his love of all things racing!

We had one more college visit at the University of Illinois to round out the month.
It was fun for Eric to be back on campus where he is an alum of 3 degrees!  We passed by his freshman dorm, lots of memories live at U of I for all of us!

My cousin Jake works on campus.  We met up with him for lunch after our tour.

Sea Base

Ben and Eric went on a high adventure camp with the Boy Scouts to the US Virgin Islands.  They slept on a sailboat for 6 nights, swam, snorkeled, hiked and even prepared their meals on the boat.  What an experience!  The boys have been preparing for this adventure for the past year.

Captain Ben!  Each of the boys had a turn to pilot the boat.

They slept on the deck, under these tarps, even during the rain storm on the first night!

The boys snorkeled every day.  They swam to shore to hike most days as well.

The house on the shore was where Robert Oppenheimer lived in St. John's in the 60's.

While the ship was sailing, this was where you would find Eric, enjoying the ocean breeze.

One afternoon the group swam ashore on St. Johns for a hike and lunch at this sweet sea side cafe.  Eric and Ben both declared it to be the most delicious lunch!

After 6 nights the group sailed to shore, debarked and unwound on the beach for the afternoon.  Ben and a couple of friends took a spin on this raft that was pulled by the wave runner.  What fun!

The beautiful beach.  They group stayed here for a night before flying home the next day.

The scouts were able to play on this obstacle course on the first night, before the sailing trip began.

I checked in on Ben's location from IN.  He's so far away!!

These 2 had quite an adventure together!
One I know they will always remember and treasure their time spent together.

Summer Vacation

A family vacation was tricky this summer between baseball weekends and Boy Scout camps.  We vacationed at Walt Disney World for 3 nights in early July staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge.  We love to stay here, the animals on the "savannah" are so thrilling to watch as they saunter past our view from our room.  We enjoyed a couple of lovely dinners at the African restaurants at the resort.  We took advantage of the warm summer weather and spent a day riding water slides at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon water park and another day on Cocoa Beach, playing in the waves and soaking up some sun rays.

Quality over quantity was it for us this summer.  We really enjoyed our time together!
